Samuel’s Story

from Encountering God

Don’t settle for little pieces of God but chase Him with all you’re worth. People tend to get in a comfort zone and then stay there, but God wants you to have more. Samuel’s encounter with God begs us to ask the question, “why this boy Samuel and not me”? Samuel put himself in a position to hear God by living in the house of the Lord, sleeping next to the Ark of the Covenant and submerging himself in prayer. He was also ministering before the Lord. The more we seek God for Himself and not for what may be in it for us, the more likely we are to encounter Him. God wants to speak with us, He wants a deep relationship with us but we must be willing to hear Him and to recognize His voice.

Faithfulness increases the likelihood of hearing God’s voice. Eli was listening to God but wasn’t obeying, but Samuel was listening and obeying. God prepared Samuel for Kingdom work. If God convicts you and you accept it and say “yes” to God, the more He will talk with us.
